Westchester County works hard to be one of America’s best places to do business. Its location, incredible pool of skilled labor, educational facilities, welcoming commercial climate and vast array of lifestyle amenities make this an ideal place to live and prosper.
Such an extraordinary blend of commercial and community assets is a critical reason why Westchester steadily welcomes companies seeking superior relocation sites. At the same time, entrepreneurship is well supported and established organizations continue to grow.
As County Executive Robert P. Astorino put it in his May 2013 State of the County Address, “In Westchester, our approach is to show both our smallest entrepreneurs and largest global corporations that we want their business and that we will work hard to help them be successful in Westchester. We do that by creating an environment that allows businesses to prosper.”
Among his administration’s accomplishments, the County Executive noted:
- More than $500 million of additional capital investment in the county has resulted from the Westchester Industrial Development Agency (IDA) providing financial incentives to approximately 30 companies since January 2010. The biggest IDA effort resulted in PepsiCo’s decision to stay in the county and completely modernize its global corporate headquarters in Purchase.
- The county has a new Local Development Corporation (LDC) that is able to provide low-cost and tax-exempt financing to nonprofit agencies at no risk to county taxpayers. White Plains Hospital and SUNY Purchase are just a couple of institutions to have taken advantage of LDC support.
