There are many ways to decompress from a stressful week of work. Some get lost in a good film, others indulge in comedy or music. And for those working a really tight schedule, only an oversized glass of red can get the job done. The good news is Westchester has a little something for everyone, so check out what’s going on this weekend no matter your cup of tea.
For an (Almost) Free Film Screening
Charlie Chaplin’s The Gold Rush, Alamo Drafthouse Yonkers
The silent film icon, best known by his on-screen persona “the Tramp,” will be displayed on the Alamo Drafthouse big screen this Sunday in his 1925 comedy The Gold Rush. Chaplin, who as it turns out was quite dashing without his clumsy moustache, wrote, directed, and produced most of the films he starred in, allowing his slapstick style to pervade throughout his work. The Gold Rush is no different, and Chaplin had stated himself that this is the film he hoped to be remembered for, so it’s definitely worth checking out. Plus, the screening is free, with the purchase of a $5 food voucher.
For a Good Laugh
JB Smoove, The Ridgefield Playhouse
Leon’s back, baby! And he’ll be breaking out his slew of blue humor this Saturday night at the Ridgefield Playhouse. It’ll be worth crossing the border just to catch the Def Comedy Jam alum in his natural habitat. But knowing that Smoove is in the midst of filming Curb Your Enthusiasm’s much-anticipated ninth season, you can expect the comedic funkmaster to bring off-the-cuff laughter all night.
For Bountiful Wine and Chocolate
Hudson Valley Wine & Chocolate Festival, Fishkill
If you had a really rough week, the Wine & Chocolate Festival will be the perfect chance to sip your stress away. You’ll be able to wrap your lips around wine, cider, and craft beer concocted around the Hudson Valley region. Of course, the chocolate (and honey, olive oil, and other specialty confections) should speak for itself. The April 2016 event sold out rather quickly so it’s highly recommended to grab your tickets soon. They even have a discounted ticket for designated drivers.
For the Young Jedi
LEGO Star Wars Days, LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester
A long time ago, in an amusement park not too far from here, a LEGO Star Wars themed weekend brought joy to the hearts of young Jedi across the county. Okay, it wasn’t that long ago. In fact it’s this coming weekend. So grab your lightsabers and saddle up your Tauntaun, because you and your kids will be able to invade LEGOLAND Discovery Center from Saturday to Sunday for a range of activities, like building a large scale Yoda out of LEGOs and a scavenger hunt. May the Force be with you!
For a Night of Rock N’ Roll
A Darlene Love Christmas, Paramount Hudson Valley Theater
This Saturday, the Rock N’ Roll hall of famer Darlene Love will take her booming vocals to the Paramount stage in Peekskill. She’ll be performing some of her classic hits, like the single He’s a Rebel that helped skyrocket Love to fame, as well as a mix of Holiday Favorites. Rolling Stone Magazine has touted Love as one of the “greatest singers of all time,” so you can expect to be blown away by her thunderbolt-like voice.
