As area hospitals continue their love affair with affiliations, the latest news from Hudson Valley Hospital Center (HVHC) shouldn’t surprise anyone: it is pursuing an affiliation with New York-Presbyterian, one of the nation’s largest hospitals. The board of directors of HVHC, a 128-bed hospital located in Cortlandt Manor, voted unanimously to seek out the deal, and the hospital confirmed the decision earlier this week.
“This new relationship would improve the already high level of healthcare practiced at our hospital and provide HVHC with the resources, leading-edge technology and medical expertise to continue serving the community for many years to come,” said the hospital’s statement.
No timeline has been given yet for when the deal will be completed.
This is the latest in a series of partnerships between Westchester hospitals and their big city counterparts—something 914INC reported on earlier this year in our story, “Westchester’s Changing Healthcare Landscape.” HVHC CEO John Federspiel hinted at his hospital’s intentions when he told us at the beginning of the year, “I’m going to guess that within 18 months, just about every community hospital in the County will have an affiliation with one of the hospitals in New York City.”
Other recent hospital affiliations include:
July: New York-Presbyterian added Lawrence Hospital Center, a 187-bed hospital in Bronxville, N.Y., to its network.
June: Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco announced that it signed a letter of intent to join Great Neck, NY-based North Shore-LIJ Health System.
May: Sleepy Hollow’s Phelps Memorial Hospital announced it is exploring a partnership with North Shore-LIJ.
February: White Plains Hospital announced it would become an affiliate of Bronx-based Montefiore Medical Center.
