Westchester resident and software developer Ken Anderson uses Metro-North for his daily work commute and felt frustrated when he searched for a good train app. This led him to create Mobile Machinations’ RailTime for the Harlem, Hudson, and New Haven lines.
RailTime doesn’t just present train schedules. One of the app’s distinctions is the “barstool feature”: if you know it will take you a set amount of time to reach your train from that after-work hangout, you can set an alarm that will notify you when it’s time to leave. Too busy enjoying happy hour to go home? The alarm will alert you with the same lead time for every next available train. If you want to inform your significant other of your departure, you can set up email notifications. Additionally, multiple schedules are supported at the same time, making it possible to download a new schedule prior to it becoming active.
In the near future, you’ll even be able to find out which Grand Central gate to use for your journey. For $4.99 you may download your first line subscription; each additional line is $1.99. For more info or to download, visit mobilemachinations.com.
