Golf outings in Westchester raise more than $15 million for charities each year. One of the best is The Westchester Medical Center Invitational, which not only contributes to a very worthy cause but gives the participants the chance to see four of the area’s greatest courses.
Quaker Ridge, Trump Golf Links Ferry Point, Morefar Back O’Beyond, and Winged Foot’s fabulous East course is the golf experience lined up for a limited number of foursomes this year. They all participate in in a competition that culminates on Aug. 22. Over the past four years, they’ve raised $1 million-plus for the Westchester Medical Center Foundation (WMC).
“Funds are invested in many areas of the medical center such as the innovative WMC e-health center to advance care delivery and improve patient outcomes,” according to WMC Special Events Manager Samantha Berber. The WMC foundation also supports the 280,000-sq. ft. Ambulatory Care Pavilion, which breaks ground in June; the nearly completed main hospital lobby with modernized waiting areas; a newly constructed Caregiver Center; and the expanded patient-centered services through Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital’s Family Resource Center and its Child Life and Creative Arts Therapy programs.
Ralph Martinelli aims for 10th green at Quaker Ridge
Westchester publisher Ralph Martinelli leads one of the 18 teams in the field of this year’s four-course outing. At the first event, held in May at Quaker Ridge in Scarsdale, the team got off to a great start, placing third after a match of cards in a tie for first with a net score of 59. Competition is held on a best-ball-of-four basis.
