Juicy burgers, smoky ribs, pulled-pork sliders, and ample brews were enjoyed beneath a white tent at the first event of Westchester Magazine’s four-day Wine & Food Weekend: the Burgers, BBQ & Beer Bash. The downtown White Plains street party attracted close to 1,000 people. Performers Evan Watson and Rebecca Haviland (brought in by 107.1 The Peak) played while guests noshed on fare including chicken burgers with rapini pesto and aïoli from Restaurant North; ribs, mac and cheese, and jambalaya from Rye Roadhouse; and Portuguese chorizo and ground-beef burgers from 42 The Restaurant.
Guests voted for the top food by dropping a poker chip into a box on each restaurant’s table. First place, with 132 votes, went to X2O Xaviars on the Hudson in Yonkers for a beef and foie gras slider with spicy truffle-and-sherry-mayo on a pretzel bun. Mount Kisco’s BGR The Burger Joint finished second with 69 votes for The Wellington burger (a beef patty topped with roasted mushrooms, caramelized onions, garlic, mustard seed, and blue cheese); Benjamin Steakhouse of White Plains came in third with 47 votes for dry-aged mini burgers with seared foie gras. Other top vote-getters included Piper’s Kilt, Memphis Mae’s, Crabtree’s Kittle House, Lazy Boy Saloon, and Rye Roadhouse.
