We asked landscape designers for their best local resources for annuals, perennials, shrubs, and trees. Here are the places they recommend:

H Carlson Florist
625 Dobbs Ferry Rd, White Plains
(914) 684-6084
“This is a rare gem in Westchester,” says Robert Welsch of Westover Landscape Design in Tarrytown. “Nancy Schellhas does a fantastic job creating hanging baskets full of colorful annuals, exuberant container combinations, and lovely hostess gifts that are perfect as table centerpieces or for a kitchen counter.”

Gossett Brothers Nursery
1202 Old Post Rd, South Salem
(914) 763-3001; gossettnursery.com
“Tom Gossett is a real gem of a person,” says Jan Axel of Delphinium Design in South Salem. “Their staff is really accommodating and, aside from being a wonderful nursery, they have the best Christmas trees and a farmers’ market every Saturday all year long.”

Michael’s Garden Gate Nursery
146 N Bedford Rd, Mount Kisco
(914) 666-3177
“Michael’s has a great selection of unusual annual and perennial flowers, plus hard-to-find tropicals, water plants, and herbs,” says Jan Johnsen of Johnsen Landscapes and Pools in Mount Kisco. “They also carry beautiful garden sculptures.”

PoundRidge Nurseries
6 Pound Ridge Rd, Pound Ridge
(914) 764-5781; prnurseries.com
Axel and Johnsen are also partial to this Pound Ridge perennial, founded in the 1920s, where one can find anything from a flat of annuals to a 25-foot tree. “Very upscale, but pricey,” Axel notes.

Rosedale Nurseries
51 Saw Mill River Rd, Hawthorne
(914) 769-1300; rosedalenurseries.com
Johnsen is a fan, and Welsch calls Rosedale one of his all-time favorites. “It has a terrific selection of high-quality trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, and containers, along with fountains and supplies—even bird feeders and birdseed! They also carry some wonderful house plants and large indoor plants as well.”

Valley View Greenhouses
229 Smith Ridge Rd (Rte 123), Vista
(914) 533-2526
This designer secret is now open to the public, and with the huge greenhouses open all year, you can get a flower fix whenever the urge hits.
