The New York State Department of Labor recently released June labor stats. Overall, employment in the Westchester-Rockland-Suffolk tri-county region saw a net increase of 1,400 jobs from June 2013 to June 2014.
The largest gains were in education and healthcare (grouped together), with a net increase of 4,800 jobs, for a total job count of 124,100. Other gains were concentrated in professional and business services and hospitality, with 1,500 and 600 jobs added, respectively.
Mining and construction fared worst, shedding 1,800 jobs, down to 29,000. The government sector was close behind, with a 1,700-job decline, to 89,000.
