Pound Ridge Golf Club has again been named one of New York’s “Best Courses You Can Play” by Golfweek Magazine. This marks the seventh straight year the Westchester daily fee club has been ranked in the magazine’s top 10 for the state.
At number 8 on the list, the Pete Dye design is in elite company alongside PGA Tour venues and world famous courses in NY like Bethpage Black, Turning Stone Resort, and Leatherstocking at Cooperstown. Pound Ridge first made the list at No. 11 in 2009, a year after opening, and has steadily climbed in the esteem of the ranking panel.
“We are extremely honored by the Golfweek recognition and delighted with the way the course has matured and come into its own over the past decade,” says Ken Wang, owner of Pound Ridge. “Mr. Dye’s unwavering attention to shot values, proper tee box placement, and overall strategy, coupled with our staff’s commitment to conditioning and service has us well-positioned for the future.”
Pound Ridge is Pete Dye’s only design in New York and reflects all the qualities for which the World Golf Hall-of-Fame architect is renowned. It makes dramatic use of the landscape’s rolling hills, mature hardwood trees, and numerous rock formations. Dye challenges players both off the tee and around the interesting green complexes and delights in providing numerous risk/reward opportunities.
Golfweek’s ranking panel consists of 675 voters from seven countries who rely on 10 criteria to rate a golf course, including overall land plan, variety and memorability of golf holes, conditioning and ecology, and the “Walk in the park test,” which rates the sense of the course as worthy of spending four hours on it.
