Westchester County’s Shopping, Dining, and Entertainment Options

Even with Manhattan just a short train ride away, Westchester has enough top-notch shopping, dining and entertainment options to fill countless days and nights.

Good Deals
In Yonkers, you can stroll through the huge recently remodeled Cross County Shopping Center or take a trip to the city’s newest and most luxurious shopping/dining/entertainment destination, Westchester’s Ridge Hill. Here, you will find an intriguing mix of boutiques, key retailers and a movie theatre.

In White Plains, The Westchester is an upscale, sky-lit mall with marble floors, bronze sculptures and more than 150 stores.

Major retailers such as Bloomingdale’s, Lord & Taylor and Nordstrom are found just about everywhere around the county, and every village and town has something to offer in the way of local wares. For instance, Pound Ridge stores are known for their collectibles, and Tarrytown has an amazing downtown concentration of antiques shops.

Good Meals
With at least 2,000 restaurants, Westchester County offers options ranging from American cuisine to Thai specialties. The New York Times regularly reviews Westchester restaurants, and the Zagat Survey has rated more than 500 eateries in the county.

For a quick bite, stop by Walter’s Hot Dog Stand in Mamaroneck, or enjoy Cajun cuisine in both Mount Vernon and Rye. For additional ambience, dine at one of many restaurants along the Hudson River. Peter X. Kelly, past winner of “Iron Chef America,” owns X2O Xaviars on the Hudson. Recognized as one of the finest restaurants in Westchester, X20 serves fresh, innovative and well-prepared contemporary American food with a seafood tilt in a romantic setting. The New York Times claims, “X20 could well earn a reputation as a temple of restaurant aesthetics.”

Good Nights
After the shops close and dinner is done, join clubbers at the Lazy Lounge as they take in live blues, jazz and rock cover bands, as well as a DJ who specializes in Latin-style music and dancing. Otherwise, stop by a sports bar or sip one of the Black Bear Saloon’s specialty drinks and kick up your heels to some popular dance tunes.

If you want to relax by seeing a movie, be sure to visit New Roc City, a 1.2 million-square-foot entertainment/retail/residential complex in New Rochelle. New Roc City features 18 movie screens and an IMAX theater, as well as glow-in-the-dark bowling, ice skating and the Tower Space Shot Ride, which displays a breathtaking view of the Long Island Sound from 200 feet above the ground.

Ridge HillTake To The Hill

Westchester’s Ridge Hill is a terrific place for shopping, dining and leisurely walking. It’s also jam-packed with daily events that serve to engage the community.

Retailers ran the gamut from Lord & Taylor, Republic of Couture and EXPRESS to South Moon Under, Sur la Table and Guitar Center. For food, Westchester’s Ridge Hill offers restaurants such as BRIO Tuscan Grille, Elevation Burger and Havana Central, and includes a Whole Foods grocery store. Additionally, there is a Showcase Cinema de Lux, which not only serves as a movie theatre, but also offers great programs for the whole family, including a Popcorn Club for kids and a Silver Screen program that features Hollywood classics.

As of spring 2013, a Legoland® Discovery Center promises plenty of family enjoyment.
