Methodology: Virtually all the high school data collected were from either the New York State Department of Education or U.S. News & World Report. We used the most recent available data.

Once the data were collected and cleansed, we sent it to our expert. Each high school’s data points were compared with the overall average for all of the schools. A percentage weight was then applied to the standardized value for each school, to create an aggregate “score” for each. The high schools were then ranked based on that statistical score. Only the data in columns denoted with a * were factored into the rankings.

Notes for selected categories.

Average Class Size: It was considered more desirable to have a smaller class size than a larger one.

Student-to-Teacher Ratio: A lower student-to-teacher ratio was considered more desirable.

SAT Scores: The weighted averages for these scores were updated from last year to reflect the newer,  two-category scores (ERW & Math), as opposed to the three-category scores applicable in previous years.
