To help local businesspeople improve their sales skills, the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) of Westchester is hosting an Effective Selling Skills workshop on Tuesday, April 28 from 6 to 8 pm at the Greenburgh Public Library in
Elmsford. The workshop, relevant to both startups and established businesses, will show attendees how to prepare to sell, relate to the customer, feature benefits, interact with customers, tackle objections, and seal the deal.

What To Know Before Starting a Business
Thinking about starting a business? A good first step is to attend the upcoming What To Consider Before Starting a Business workshop, also hosted by SCORE of Westchester. The event takes place on Wednesday, April 29 from 1 to 3 pm at SCORE Headquarters (120 Bloomingdale Road, White Plains). This free workshop will explain: The qualifications necessary to start and operate the business, including experience and personal attributes; ownership functions of sales, marketing, record keeping, financial control, operational management, and recruiting and training of employees; and start-up costs, operating expenses, and cash flow projections.

How to Grow Your Business
Westchester Community College (WCC) and the Westchester County Industrial Development Agency (WIDA) have teamed up to host the upcoming 2015 Grow Conference for area entrepreneurs. The conference, which takes place on Friday, May 1 from 8 am to 3 pm at Westchester Community College in Valhalla, will show entrepreneurs how to start their business, increase sales, select different financing options, and secure government and commercial contracts.

A Look at the Nonprofit Sector
This year’s Not-For-Profit Leadership Summit XIII, on Monday, May 4
from 8 am to 4 pm, will unite volunteer and professional leaders in the nonprofit sector to identify emerging challenges and opportunities, shape new leadership strategies, and build organizations that excel. This year’s keynote speakers are Paul Schmitz, author of Everyone Leads: Building Leadership from the Community Up, and Bob McKinnon, a leading expert on creating social change. The Summit is presented by the United Way of Westchester and Putnam and the Westchester Community Foundation. The event takes place at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Tarrytown.
