Westchester Businessmen Propose Riverfront Attraction in Peekskill

A $6.5 million multi-purpose entertainment attraction at the Charles Point Marina has been proposed by a group of Peekskill businessmen. Restaurateurs Louis Lanza and John Sharp, Captain Lawrence Brewery Founder Scott Vaccaro, and Diamond Properties co-owner Bill Diamond, have joined forces to develop the former site of The Cove restaurant.

Diamond, who purchased the waterfront lease at 5 John Walsh Boulevard, is currently in possession of a 45,000 square foot space that includes three standing buildings. The group hopes to develop the plot into a seafood-themed restaurant, boutique brewery, and sprawling entertainment complex.

Each of the four businessmen plans to bring their own talents to bear on the project, with Lanza and Sharp handling operations at the restaurant, and Vaccaro offering a new line of beers not currently for sale at Captain Lawrence’s location in Elmsford.  The proposal will be presented to the Peekskill Planning Commission in October, and should receive final approval before Thanksgiving.

Montefiore and Burke Rehabilitation Center Join Forces

In a bid to expand the accessibility of advanced rehabilitation therapies to Westchester County and surrounding areas, Montefiore Health System and Burke Rehabilitation Hospital have announced plans for a strategic partnership. The alliance would bring state-of-the-art rehabilitation programs to a broader audience, while enhancing patient experience and improving results.

The Burke Medical Research Institute will remain independent of the Montefiore Health System within the new deal, and will continue to provide the highest level of orthopedic, neurological, and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation. Burke will also continue to operate its outpatient clinics and programs throughout Westchester County, the Hudson Valley, and the Bronx. The partnership would allow Montefiore to bring its extensive resources to bear on Burke’s already excellent system. “Montefiore and Burke Rehabilitation Hospital represent two of the most exceptional physical medicine and rehabilitation programs in the tri-state area,” remarks Dr. Steven M. Safyer, president and CEO of Montefiore Health System. “As we build on each other’s expertise in rehabilitative care, I believe the future is bright for residents of Westchester and the Hudson Valley who look to overcome existing physical limitations and live their lives to the fullest.”

Mark Halperin To Speak at Business Council of Westchester Dinner

The hugely popular historian and political analyst, Mark Halperin, will be the featured speaker at The Business Council of Westchester’s 2015 Annual Dinner. Halperin, whose best-selling book Game Change was adapted into an award-winning HBO film, also serves as Managing Editor of Bloomberg Politics and host of Bloomberg TV’s With All Due Respect. He will discuss the upcoming 2016 presidential election at this year’s dinner, which takes place October 27 at the Hilton Rye Town.

Fordham Westchester’s New Post-Master’s Certificate Program

The Gabelli School of Business at Fordham University’s Westchester campus has recently announced a new Post-Master’s Healthcare Certificate Program. The program, which will conduct its first of two weekend sessions next month, concentrates on the difficulties healthcare managers face when caring for the extremely frail and terminally ill.

This executive education certificate program will be divided into two weekend-intensive segments, running from October 16 through 19 and February 12 through 15. Participants can choose to focus on palliative care, long-term care, public health, or gerontology.

Held at the school’s Westchester Campus, the program’s faculty includes noted Bioethicist Bruce Jennings, Medical Director Emeritus Barney D. Newman, and Palliative Medicine Specialist Cary Reid, among numerous others. Women Trailblazers Receive their Due

A pioneering group of women in technology are to be honored by the Westchester County Association at The Second Annual Women in Tech Awards. Taking place October 1 at the Tappan Hill Mansion in Tarrytown, the Women in Tech Awards were founded in 2014 to bring attention to the tremendous contributions of women to advancements in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

“The Women in Technology luncheon provides a forum for the women to share their stories and for us to shine a light on their successes,” remarks President of the Westchester County Association, Marissa Brett. “Westchester is a leader in technology and the life sciences, and we are honored to recognize these trailblazing women who are improving our lives daily.” 

The honorees are Dr. JoAnn Difede, PhD, professor, Department of Psychiatry at Weill Medical College of Cornell University; Joan Fallon, founder and CEO, Curemark; Dr. Lynn Macdonald, PhD, executive director, Pain, Neurology & VI Next, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals; Andrea Soto, vice president, MasterCard; and Rebecca Sommi, senior vice president of operations, support, and engineering, Broadview Networks. The awards will also recognize two Westchester students, Brigitte Obermeyer and Lindsay Peckham, for their own notable achievements in STEM.

New Business Center Opens in Bronxville

After an extensive top-to-bottom renovation, 51 Pondfield Road in downtown Bronxville has been transformed into the Woodhall Suites at the Bronxville Business Center. The business center, or BBC, is located at the heart of downtown Bronxville, directly across from the village’s railway station and a short walk from its bustling shopping district.

Located just 20-minutes from midtown Manhattan, the BBC features fully furnished executive suites as well as modern Cisco VOIP telephones, on-site management, and high-speed Internet access included in monthly rent.
