The 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Seth Meyers, will take place on August 25, and if you aren’t already hyped for the glitz and glam of the big night, the list of nominations is out, and many of the nominated shows have ties to Westchester County.
The county has enjoyed a recent economic boom from the film and television industries. In fact, according to the Westchester County Film Office, the number of production companies looking to film in Westchester has skyrocketed from 121 in 2011 to over 400 this year alone.
Big-name producers like Damon Lindelof, writer and director of the series Lost, are among those looking to film in the area. His latest series, HBO’s The Leftovers, recently shot in Hastings-on-Hudson, utilizing its river scenery and quaint downtown. Westchester isn’t new to the film industry, however; movies like Fatal Attraction, The Wolf of Wall Street, Inside Llewyn Davis, The Departed, and Catch Me If You Can all filmed scenes in Westchester locations. Though Westchester is a seasoned veteran of the silver screen, it is now shining as an ideal location for small screen productions. Studios like the Yonkers Stage in Tuckahoe and Haven Studios in New Rochelle provide ample space for TV crews to build sets.
With access to beaches, scenic countryside, and proximity to Manhattan, Westchester seems like an obvious choice for TV producers.
“Westchester’s beautiful parks, shorelines, historic Main Streets, suburban neighborhoods and bustling urban areas provide great backdrops for movies and television shows,” said County Executive Rob Astorino.
The Emmys will be broadcast live from Los Angeles on August 25, and will air on NBC at 8pm EST. Here is a complete list of nominations with ties to Westchester.
