Westchester’s position as a growing business hub for a wide variety of industries and sectors recently got another boost: National IT provider TierPoint cites the county’s proximity to New York City as a prime benefit for delivering disaster-recovery IT services. The company, founded in 2010, announced last month a 38,000 square-foot expansion to its Hawthorne data centers, and explained to us the importance of this key location.
“[Hawthorne] is a great location for our clients, outside of the New York metro area, but still very accessible,” explains TierPoint’s New York Regional VP John Vernazza, adding that because Hawthorne is outside New York City’s 12-mile blast zone and the 500-year flood zone, “the Hawthorne facility is well-positioned to deliver disaster recovery solutions, including business continuity workspace.
“Westchester County is widely seen as a superior and strategic alternative to New Jersey and Connecticut for New York City businesses that need disaster recovery services and hybrid IT solutions,” Vernazza continues. “There is also great connectivity to carriers at our facility, which is very helpful to the financial community.”

One of 40 such centers nationally, the expansion will increase the company’s ability to serve its more than 5,000 customers. This marks the third major expansion since TierPoint acquired the Westchester facility in 2014.
Vernazza explains the current expansion plan anticipates adding more than 38,000 square feet of raised floor, roughly a third of which will be added in a first, $13 million phase. This primary phase is expected to be customer-ready this November. The expansion will aid in TierPoint’s greater mission to provide hybrid IT solutions, which is “a blend of cloud computing, colocation, and managed services — such as managed security and disaster recovery — on-premises and in the cloud,” according to Vernazza.
In addition, he notes that the expansion “will further enhance [TierPoint’s] ability to meet growing demand, especially for customers in the financial industry who count on ultra-low latency network connectivity to midtown and lower Manhattan.”
With a growing customer base, a prime Westchester location, and increasing demand for its services, TierPoint’s growth is showing no sign of slowing. “We are continuing to grow by broadening our solutions portfolio, expanding our facilities and building new ones, based on the needs of our clients,” says Verzanna. “At our Hawthorne facility we have plenty of room to expand, so I think the future is exciting.”
