Yep, yet another Rockefeller connection. Union Church, a quaint old chapel in Pocantico Hills, has nine Chagall stained-glass windows, the only cycle of Chagall church windows in America, and one Matisse, all thanks to the largesse of the Rockefellers. Nelson Rockefeller commissioned the Matisse “rose window” above the chancel to honor his mother, Abby Aldrich Rockefeller, one of the founders of the Museum of Modern Art and a huge Matisse fan, while David and Peggy Rockefeller commissioned the Chagalls. We think they are ineffably sublime.
