It’s been more than a year since Wegmans, the zealously touted grocery chain, closed the deal on three buildings along Harrison’s “Platinum Mile” of former corporate office space. Now, after much construction, the company has announced a tentative launch window and is beginning the process of hiring full- and part-time staff for the location.
Wegmans is currently deciding on an exact grand opening date for the 120,000-plus square foot facility, but the timing is clear: Westchester residents can look forward to swarming the deli counter spring of 2020.
Though it may be a year out, Wegmans is already starting the search process to hire 220 full-time employees for the Harrison location. Currently the grocer is seeking both customer service and entry-level management positions, as well as chefs and line cooks for its in-house kitchens, including The Burger Bar. Part-time staff hiring will begin later this year, eventually building a team of more than 500 employees, predominantly comprising locals.
Competition is expected to be tough, as Wegmans regularly ranks tops in Fortune and Great Places to Work rankings of the best employers in the nation — last year alone it was named #2 among Fortune 100 companies and #1 for all retail industry employers, a title it has held for three consecutive years.
“Our commitment to in-depth training is the main reason we begin the hiring process so early,” says Store Manager Matthew Dailor. “These jobs provide competitive pay with industry-leading benefits, flexible scheduling, and most importantly, a great place to work.” Dailor began working for the company himself more than 25 years ago as a part-time parking lot attendant.
