Weekend Max Mara debuted a new shop within The Westchester at the end of April and its interior is just as chic as the pieces stocked.
Weekend Max Mara, the classic contemporary lifestyle collection within the Max Mara Group, is celebrated for its signature clean and timeless clothing, handbags, shoes, and jewelry — suitable for weekends and the outdoors. The line is influenced by its original sportwear history (offering collegiate jumpers and soft fleece sweatshirts), but is known for its simple, yet flattering and elegant styles in bold and neutral patterns and prints in linen, cotton, wool, and tweed. (Current pieces include belted dresses, vibrant blazers, structured trench coats, and flowing skirts.) The vibe is “formal informality or utility de luxe,” according to the brand — perfect for the Westchester customer.
Cristian Notari, Max Mara North America’s CEO, shared, “The Westchester was a natural choice for Weekend Max Mara’s new retail location given the mall’s significant performance in the region. The mall’s impressive footprint combined with the curated selection of retailers positions Weekend Max Mara in great company.” The location will offer Westchesterites a full wardrobe shopping experience including daywear, evening wear, and a full range of accessories.
The boutique will also feature Weekend Max Mara’s signature collection “Nantucket” by interior designer Anthony Baratta. This spring summer collection has twelve-pieces inspired by the Massachusetts destination (wide-leg palazzo-style trousers, full-skirted sleeveless blue stripe dresses, gingham skirts, etc.). This is Barratta’s first collaboration with a fashion brand. He felt that Weekend Max Mara is similar to his own designs because they are both fun and vibrant. “There is a lot of cross over between us, in color and style, as well as our appeal to a wide [variety] of people.” The patterns he’s chosen to represent his “Nantucket” collection have long been used in his work. “I just love stripes, floral, and checks for the summertime. The signature pattern, done by my friends at Max Mara, has all the kinds of decorative items that I use within the homes I design.”
As for who Barrata sees wearing his signature collection, he says “Nantucket” appeals to all kinds of women. “I would say sporty, contemporary, and fun — sort of like my decorating.” The Max Mara team agrees. When creating the collaboration with Barratta, they had in mind “a sophisticated, elegant, avant-garde, and contemporary woman who likes to wear fun, fresh and lively clothes like the ones offered in the “Nantucket” signature collection.”
Weekend Max Mara’s entire spring/summer collection is colorful and fresh, “a clever mix between casual and elegant,” the Max Mara team explained in a statement. “There are many dresses, trousers, and shirts that are designed to be worn all day long. You can just change a few details or an accessory to make the same outfit perfect for different occasions.”
The brand’s classic, yet modern feel extends into the architectural details. Bright and airy, The Westchester location (on retail level 1 across from Guest Services) resembles a chic and rustic home, featuring handmade glazed Italian tile and walnut wood flooring, with painted canvas walls for a contemporary feel. Custom sofas provide an intimate seating area amidst tables topped with carefully-curated accessories.
