Though Hyatt decided to tear down rather than repurpose, you might still hear echoes of the churning beat of the old Condé Nast publishing presses as they turned out Glamour, House & Garden, Vanity Fair, and other national glossies in what is currently one of the most park-like hotel lobbies in the world. This lovely oasis suggests a tropical paradise with living banana and palm trees, coursing streams, koi ponds, and waterfalls. One tower, now concealing an enormous air handler, is all that’s left of the original Condé Nast Publications campus—that and a couple of granite obelisks, stamped with the publisher’s name and magazine titles, that mark the boundaries of the former property.
ROOM: After a $30 million renovation, rooms have a fresh, classic, coastal New England touch.
BOARD: If you are here on Sunday morning, indulge in the fabled “Best of the Gold Coast Weekend Brunch” at in-house restaurant Winfield’s. Sit beneath the grand Washingtonian palm trees and choose from a myriad of offerings, including a sushi bar and Bloody Mary bar.
ONLY HERE: The Gazebo Bar & Grill is to Greenwich what the Grand Central Terminal information booth is to New York—that is, the place to meet.
WHILE HERE: Wander Greenwich Avenue—the Rodeo Drive of the East—and cap off the stroll with a stop at the eclectic Bruce Museum.
