A Wedding Party Planned On Pinterest

September 13, 2014

Teresa and Jeffrey met on a blind date chaperoned by a mutual friend in 2010. “We both agreed that if we weren’t enjoying it, she would be there to buffer the situation and get us out,” remembers Teresa. Luckily, that wasn’t necessary. A couple years later, Teresa came home exhausted from a 12-hour overnight shift at the hospital where she works as a physician, but Jeffrey wanted to take her to Central Park. The couple was relaxing by the lake when Jeffrey got down on one knee and proposed with a unique canary diamond ring.

The wedding was an especially emotional event for both Teresa‘s and Jeff‘s families. ”It was the first time someone had been married in my family in 20 years,“ says Teresa. ”Jeff is the youngest of his siblings and cousins, so it was a big event for his family, as well.”

“We had a rule to not even talk about getting married for two months, to digest it and embrace the thought of getting engaged,” says Teresa. “After those two months were over, I was at full speed—all about Pinterest.”

Choosing the venue was simple, as the couple had liked Westchester Country Club since Jeffrey’s brother held his wedding there a few years earlier. Some of the details, however, were a bit more difficult. For the ceremony, Teresa dressed the ring bearers as “private ring security,” complete with sunglasses and ID badges. “I thought it was a cute idea, but I was frantic trying to find a mini-safe small enough for my little 4-year-old nephew to carry down the aisle,” she says.

For the décor, she knew she wanted an elegant combination of ivory, navy, and gold, and tons of candlelight. “I am sold on light,” she says. “If I could have gotten married in a backyard with twinkly lights, that’s what our dream would be.” Instead, the couple played tribute to that dream with a lounge lit by a canopy of lights.

Another important element for Teresa was remembering her dad, who had passed away, with a simple photo. She walked down the aisle with her mother and shared the traditional father-daughter dance with the men in her family instead. “They had a conglomerate of like eight people dancing and crying on the dance floor,” she says. “That was a pretty tender moment. The whole wedding was very emotional.”

For the cake, Teresa and Jeff went with flavors inspired by her favorite dessert: chocolate-dipped strawberries. Instead of the traditional strawberry shortcake, the layers were filled with chocolate and cream.
