Watch This Tarrytown Resident Give an Inspiring TEDx Talk

Sherry Saturno, LNHA, LCSW, DCSW, a local social worker, provides encouraging advice on overcoming obstacles and achieving success.

“Rejection. We’ve all been there. There’s no denying that it hurts.”

This statement, accurate and concise, is how Sherry Saturno began her TEDx Talk at WCC, recently published to the TEDx Talks YouTube channel. She goes on to discuss how rejection and the pain that accompanies it often act as motivation to achieve unanticipated success — a marvel she’s witnessed countless times in her tenure as a social worker.

Saturno, a Tarrytown resident, is an outstanding personality in the world of social work, having been included in Social Work Today Magazine’s 2017 list of ten notable social workers in the nation. She’s the Director of Social Services at Sprain Brook Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Scarsdale, and wrote and produced a short film, Human Investment, which last year won the Media Award for Best Documentary Film by the National Association of Social Workers.

In her TEDx Talk, Saturno implores her audience to avoid letting fear of rejection silence our personal narratives. “Your story is your power,” she says. “Take a look and find your quirks and your traumas and find your own greatness.”

For Saturno, using your anger and pain as a catalyst for change is the ultimate goal: the scars earned along the way a reminder of your strength and will. “All of us have scars. It’s what you do with them that counts.” Listen to the rest of Saturno’s inspirational TEDx Talk below.
