Voices From the Westchester Community, and Around the Country, Resound on the Passing of Ralph Martinelli

Our magazine’s beloved publisher, Ralph Martinelli, passed away peacefully this weekend after a 16-month battle with the aftereffects of a brain injury. His work here at Westchester Magazine and in the county as a whole has left a mark, and the news of his passing sent waves through the community. Condolensces and thoughtful remarks were sent in from all corners of the county, and even the country.

Here, we wanted to share just a few of the dear comments that were shared with the Martinelli family. We hope they impact you as strongly as they do us. 

“The loss of Ralph Martinelli has shaken me personally and the roots of the BCW at our foundation. Ralph has been a longtime member of our Board of Directors. We partnered with Ralph on Commerce Magazine, which was Westchester’s business magazine for many years and ultimately morphed into 914INC. Our partnership also branded Westchester as a leading economic engine through the economic development guide we jointly published on behalf of the County, our relocation guide and our membership directory. It was Ralph’s vision to produce the highest quality, most beautiful magazines and custom publications, especially the gorgeous and most well-read Westchester Magazine (he was so proud of how many eyes saw each issue because it was so attractive and relevant.)

His publications defined Westchester, but did not define Ralph. Despite his great success, he always remained humble, albeit self deprecating at times, with a truly adorable giggle that meant “I really can’t believe all this is happening.” He was open to meeting every person who wanted to meet him. He was the most real person I know with doubts and vulnerabilities and with steadfast loyalty, which the BCW was so fortunate to earn. For me, he was a strong supporter and friend through tough times where he stood by me… and successful times where he was proud to be a BCW Board member. As we were so proud to have him.

Ralph’s loss is a tragedy … but his legacy will be a Westchester community that will honor his vision, passion and love for our home.”​
