Vicki McKinney is responsible for spearheading all areas of the revenue cycle, process improvement, and operational efficiency for Westmed Practice Partners, the management-service organization of Westmed Medical Group. That job has gotten increasingly complicated over McKinney’s 20 years with the company. When she started, the group comprised 24 physicians; she has played an integral role in transforming the small community practice into a 450-plus physician-owned national healthcare leader with locations throughout Westchester and Fairfield Counties.
“I think mentoring is one of the things I do best…. I take a lot of pride in that.”
Recently named one of the Most Notable Women in Healthcare NY by Crain’s, McKinney focuses on maintaining consistent best-practice statistics and in positioning Westmed’s call center as a recognized industry leader in service, empathetic patient care, staffing, and overall employee engagement. She has helped Westmed achieve revenue cycle numbers — including accounts receivables and debt — that are in the top 5 percent of all physician practices nationwide.
McKinney believes that women have an edge in leadership and team-building. “I think we know how to combine driving results with the relationship aspects of business,” she explains, adding that part of this edge comes from trying to balance business and personal lives. “Many of us have learned how to do that effectively, which is not easy to do.”
She also believes in helping the next generation of women business leaders do the same. “I think mentoring is one of the things I do best,” McKinney says. “I take a lot of pride in that. It is important for women to have mentors they can learn from.”
