REVOLVING DOOR
Bernard Kroll and Ramesh Shah have joined the Board of Directors for Yonkers Partners in Education (YPIE), a not-for-profit organization working in partnership with the Yonkers Public Schools to improve college readiness and access to higher education among the city’s students. Kroll, a 25-year veteran of the financial derivatives and asset-management business, has worked in sales and trading of precious metals, energy, fixed income, and equity derivatives. Ramesh Shah is the former Chairman of WNS Global Services, a provider in offshore outsourcing solutions to the Global 500.
David Michael Hahn, head of school at the Long Island Lutheran Middle & High School, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of The Wartburg Adult Care Community in Mount Vernon. The Wartburg has long served the long-term healthcare needs of the elderly. In the past year, it has launched a building expansion plan, including the design and construction of 61 modern, independent housing units and a new rehabilitation and adult day care services center.
Tarrytown resident Vanessa Williams has been appointed Ambassador of Health, Hope, and Happiness by Ubuntu Africa. Founded by Bedford’s Whitney Johnson, the organization provides health and social services to HIV-positive children. The star will join forces with the nonprofit to build support for HIV-positive children in South Africa, attract funding, and highlight the impact of AIDS on children throughout the continent.

Tim Rooney, president and CEO of Empire City Casino, has pledged to match up to $100,000 of contributions made by employees and customers to the Empire State Relief Fund, which is dedicated to Hurricane Sandy recovery. This pledge will supplement the $500,000 the casino has already contributed towards relief efforts.
Mount Kisco has a new app endorsed by the Village’s Chamber of Commerce. The Mt. Kisco Buzz app provides several features intended to enhance the “local experience,” including GPS-based coupons; guides for local retail, businesses, and restaurants; local news; and upcoming events. Available for iOS and Android, the app was designed by Mike Wolfe of WAM Enterprises, which provides social media marketing.

Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: REGN) has been named Biotechnology Company of the Year by Scrip Intelligence at the 8th annual Scrip Awards. The Award recognizes the biotech firm that has achieved the most in the 12 months between June 1, 2011 and May 31, 2012.
Elder law attorney Anthony J. Enea, managing partner at Enea, Scanlan & Sirignano, LLP, in White Plains, has been named a Super Lawyer for 2012 by Super Lawyers magazine. This is the sixth time Enea has received this distinction; he has been named a Super Lawyer every year since 2007. Enea was recently promoted to vice president of the Westchester County Bar Foundation, which was established in 1984 as the charitable arm of the Westchester County Bar Association. He was also elected as vice president of the Columbian Lawyers Association of Westchester County in October 2012.
Westchester women entrepreneurs Nancy Gold, president of The Gold Standard in Katonah, and Marjorie Finer, COO of The Inner Group in Peekskill, were both awarded the 2012 Lillian Vernon Award by the Women’s Enterprise Development Center (WEDC) at the organization’s annual Women’s Business Networking Event held on November 27 in White Plains. Presented by David Hochberg, Lillian Vernon’s son, the awards are given by WEDC annually to women business owners who, like Westchester entrepreneur Lillian Vernon, have demonstrated exceptional service to the community.
Attain Fertility (attainfertility.com) , a website in the fertility field and that has made extensive use of digital media to communicate and provide support to people dealing with fertility issues, is the recipient of five Web Health Awards and one eHealthcare Award. It also received the eHealthcare Awards Award of Distinction for Best Overall Internet Site.
Admiral Real Estate Services Corp. has announced that Joan Simon closed 18,000 square feet of retail deals, including the following three leases at Triangle Shopping Center in Yorktown Heights: Mrs. Smith’s Bagels, Luvin’ Spoonfuls Frozen Yogurt, and Jake’s Wayback Burgers. In addition, Joan leased space in Ardsley (Yogurt by You), Mount Kisco (Entertainment Technologies), Pleasantville (Angel Beauty Nail Salon), and Rye (Peachwave Frozen Yogurt). Joan Simon and Jonathan Gordon also brought Lacrosse Unlimited to 487 Main Street in Mount Kisco, which brings leasing at the center to full capacity. On the investment sales side, Simon represented the seller of 41 South Greeley Avenue in Chappaqua in the sale of the 4,400-square-foot retail building.
Hudson Valley Hospital Center was presented with the Success Story Award by Press Ganey Associates, Inc., in November at the organization’s 2012 National Conference in Washington DC. Hudson Valley Hospital Center is one of 13 organizations to receive this honor in 2012, and one of only nine organizations to receive the award for satisfaction performance. HVHC was recognized specifically for its ability to maintain employee satisfaction ratings above the 92nd percentile for the past six years.
Howard E. Greenberg, SIOR, president of Howard Properties, Ltd., in White Plains, has announced that his firm has won the Lease of the Year Award given by the National Association for Industrial and Office Parks (NAIOP), Connecticut and Suburban New York Chapter. The award is for the lease of 125,000 square feet by the law firm Wilson Elser at 1133 Westchester Avenue in White Plains. Greenberg represented the tenant in the transaction, which was the largest office lease of the year (2011) in Westchester County.
At its 10th Annual Philanthropy Awards Breakfast on November 15, The Association of Development Officers honored those who have made a positive impact in the nonprofit community. Jaclyn Carlin, a senior at Scarsdale High School, received the Youth in Philanthropy Award for her commitment to empowering children to change their own lives through her work with Westchester Jewish Community Services’ “Amazing Afternoons” (Mount Vernon). Sharon Bendersky, director of Tax Audits and Non-Income Corporate Finance at New York Stock Exchange Euronet, was named Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year for her work as a Board Member with St. Christopher’s, Inc. David Schribman, White Plains Rotary president, accepted the Community Partner Award on behalf of White Plains Rotary. Grace Ferri, VP of Development and Marketing at United Hebrew of New Rochelle, was named Professional Fundraiser of the Year. Markham F. Rollins, III, president of The Rollins Agency, accepted his award for Nonprofit Board Member of the Year. Lucille Geraci-Miranda, ADO’s immediate past president, received the Peter J. Gallagher Award for Leadership & Service to ADO.

In the dwindling days of 2012, McCullough wins sweet tax relief from the IDA for the massive PepsiCo restoration project, alternative energy sources to Indian Point are explored, and a ray of hope brightens the prospects of Peekskill’s darkened Paramount Center for the Arts.
Frank McCullough, a partner with McCullough Goldberger & Staudt, LLP, successfully represented PepsiCo Inc. before the Westchester County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) in its application for inducement in connection with the company’s planned $240 million renovation of its world headquarters in Purchase, the largest project to receive assistance from the agency in the last 10 years. The renovation, slated to begin in the first quarter of 2013, is one of the largest corporate renovation projects ever undertaken in Westchester and is expected to create 1,250 construction jobs. It will involve renovations and improvements to the entire 440,000-square-foot office complex at 700 Anderson Hill Road and is expected to take 30 months to complete. The company will also receive $4 million in Excelsior tax credits from New York State and is finalizing a PILT (Payment in Lieu of Taxes) agreement with the Town/Village of Harrison and the Harrison Central School District.
The State Public Service Commission (PSC) has ordered Consolidated Edison and the New York Power Authority to work together to address the needs that would arise in the event that Indian Point shut down. The state’s largest utilities have joined forces to determine whether the nuclear plant’s energy output could be replaced with renewable sources like solar energy and improved energy efficiency. The Commission addressed a report published last month by Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Energy Highway Task Force, which called for a contingency plan. Currently in the process of renewing its operating licenses, Entergy Corporation, the plant’s owner, faces opposition from Cuomo and State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. Recent reports released by environmental groups and the State’s Energy Planning Board suggest that the plant’s power output could be provided by other sources. The City of Peekskill has issued an RFP for the lease, management, and operation of the Paramount Center for the Arts, one of Peekskill’s key cultural attractions. The Paramount closed last month when management was unable to meet expenses. Originally constructed by a subsidiary of Paramount Pictures, the theater has attracted thousands of patrons from Westchester and the surrounding counties. The City will entertain proposals from for-profit and not-for-for-profit entities with theater arts management experience.
