They say a bride’s veil is her crowning glory, so it’s understandable that this bride is concerned about selecting just the right one! Read on…
A Valley bride asks: “I found the wedding gown of my dreams — and now all I need is the perfect veil. I’m not sure how or where to do that. Can you help?”
Dear bride: You’re right to be thinking about the veil as a part of your total bridal attire picture. Typically, brides choose their veils at the same shop as their wedding gowns. Though, there’s nothing wrong with picking a veil “off the rack” if price is an issue!
Many bridal shops can customize a veil to match your dress. I consulted Tina at Lady Gray Bridal in Beacon, who’s been selling bridal attire for 28 years. Tina defines customization as “matching the beading, lace, fabric, and style.” Though customizing a veil is more expensive (prices starts at $300), “it makes a big difference in the overall look,” she says. The first step is obvious — establish if there’s anything in particular that the bride has in mind. Tina considers the bride’s budget, as well as whether she’ll wear the veil for just the ceremony or throughout the reception. Possibly the most important detail is the bride’s hairstyle — a complicated up-do makes a huge difference for a perfect fit.
After learning these details and meeting with her vendors, Tina selects several possible veil options for the bride to consider. At least one meeting is dedicated to the veil’s tailoring specifications, and another for a final fitting alongside the dress. And voilà! The end result is a beautiful headpiece that not only perfectly complements the gown, but is comfortable and durable.
