US News & World Report released on Tuesday their annual rankings of the nation’s best high schools, and Westchester schools—and the students who attend them, of course—should feel pretty good about the findings: 15 county high schools were ranked among the top 50 in New York State, and the top 500 nationwide.
Same as last year, only two local schools broke into the nation’s top 100—Blind Brook and Rye High School—but five more county schools made the state’s top 50 than last year. Rye High School retained its number two spot (11th statewide, 81st nationwide), while Blind Brook High School bumped out Edgemont Junior-Senior High for the top honors in Westchester (ninth statewide, 73rd nationwide).
The rankings, a joint effort between US News & World Report and North Carolina-based research firm RTI International, were created by measuring the performance of each school’s state-required-test results, how minority students fared at the school, and how well the school prepared its students for college. In total, 29,000 schools were evaluated.
According to the criteria above, these are the 15 best high schools in Westchester:

3.  Yonkers Middle High School, Yonkers – 18th, 121st
4.   Hastings High School, Hastings-on-Hudson – 24th, 153rd
5.  Horace Greeley High School, Chappaqua – 25th, 162nd
6.   Byram Hills High School, Armonk – 27th, 176th
7.   Edgemont Junior-Senior High School, Scarsdale – 29th, 183rd
8.   Briarcliff High School, Briarcliff Manor – 31st, 212nd
9.  Irvington High School, Irvington – 32nd, 215th
10.  John Jay High School, Cross River – 35th, 241st
11.  Pleasantville High School, Pleasantville – 36th, 253rd
12.   Rye Neck Senior High School, Mamaroneck – 39th, 288th
13.   Ardsley High School, Ardsley – 43rd, 346th
14.   Fox Lane High School, Bedford – 46th, 368th
15.   North Salem Middle School/High School – 49th, 427th
