With four locations in New York City and a fifth up in Boston, Yonkers seems like an odd spot to find a 5 Napkin Burger. The moment you enter their Ridge Hill Shopping Center location, all of that goes out the window. The food and drinks will make you think you’re far from suburbia and if you arrive early (or late) for happy hour, your credit card will be happy as well.
5 Napkin Burger’s new Smokin’ Rosie |
When you’re noshing on burger after burger, it’s odd that a drink would stand out above all else. That was the case for 5 Napkin Burger’s new Smokin’ Rosie—Botanist gin, smoked rosemary, fresh lemon, grapefruit bitters. A refreshing drink, this is perfect for a hot day in June but doubles as a sidekick for the sliders and onion rings during happy hour.
The most unique aspect of this drink was the piece of rosemary placed on top. With each sip, you get a multi-sensory experience. The smell of the rosemary hits your nose just as the gin and fresh lemon hit your lips. It’s very unique and totally different from anything I’ve had recently.
The Smokin’ Rosie wasn’t the only surprise of the night. As a certified eater of red meat, turkey and veggie burgers aren’t always high on my priority list. However, the turkey sliders, with Asiago cheese, herb-roasted tomato, arugula, and basil-pesto mayo, were a treat. The turkey tasted great but the toppings really added a kick. The herb-roasted tomato was almost like a tomato sauce and arugula always adds a fresh, bright element to sandwiches. The cheese and mayo top off these delicious snacks.
The turkey sliders, topped off with cheese, mayo, and herb-roasted tomato, bring a bright element to 5 Napkin Burger’s happy hour. |
When you can go to a restaurant with “burger” in the name, you expect to be blown away by the burgers. While the burgers were delicious, the third standout from the night was the edamame hummus appetizer with miso-tahini, sunflower seeds, and sprouts. It’s served with warm flatbread and it’s a truly fun dish to share. Skip the salad (you’re at a burger joint after all) and share the edamame hummus before diving into your burgers (or sushi; yes, they also serve sushi).
Happy hour at Five Napkin Burger runs from Monday to Friday 4 to 7 pm and 9 pm to close; Saturday and Sunday 9 pm to close.
