Everyone has a favorite bagel place, and AM activities tend to operate on autopilot. So if Traditional Bagel Café in New Rochelle screws up your morning routine, don’t blame me—I’m just passing this along. Their cream cheeses, all freshly made on site, make most other places look like they’re not even trying. One of three people on line ahead of you is there for bacon and basil cream cheese; I’m there for hot cherry pepper. Some go for cream cheese mixed with lots of lox (sodium-nitrate-free, of course), others for hazelnut cocoa (the Nutella of cream cheeses). On any given day you might also find sun-dried tomato, spinach, pimento-stuffed olive, walnut raisin, strawberry, and blueberry. If that’s more than a bleary-eyed schmear-seeking schmuck can handle, there’s always scallion, veggie, and plain (all available in low fat).
These are everything flagels, and you should try one. - Advertisement -

Fix your own coffee or order iced coffee (which gets raves) and take a load off your feet. The hand-rolled bagels are pretty great too, and you might just find yourself forsaking your everything bagel for several different kinds of everything flagel—that’s a flat bagel, for you uninitiated—regular, whole wheat, egg, or pumpernickel.
