German-born Audra McDonald now calls Croton-on-Hudson her home. She attended Julliard for classical vocal training and with five Tony wins in her career she’s tied with Julie Harris and Angela Lansbury for the most Tony Awards for one recipient. Alan Menken—the man behind classic Disney soundtracks like The Little Mermaid and Pocahontas—was born in New Rochelle. In 2012 he added his first Tony (Best Original Score, Newsies) to his impressive collection of awards (including eleven Grammys). He is now nominated for a 2014 Tony Award for the Aladin musical.
Armonk-raised Tom Kitt attended Byram Hills High School where he was in several stage productions. He has worked as a composer, orchestrator, and music director, including extensive collaboration with the band Green Day. He already has one Tony under his belt and might clinch another this year for the play If/Then.
The 68th annual Tony Awards will be held on June 8, 2014 at the Radio City Music Hall. It will be shown live on CBS with Hugh Jackman hosting.
