While the U.S. women’s national soccer team took most of the headlines this summer, one local soccer club was making a few of its own. Over four days this July in Commerce City, CO, Mount Kisco’s own FC Transylvania went undefeated in the 15-U Boys Premier division to take home the championship at U.S. Club Soccer’s National Cup XVIII.
Over 200 teams from 124 clubs, representing 32 U.S. states as far apart as Hawaii and Rhode Island, came together at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park from July 19 to 23 to compete for the Doug Hamilton Memorial Trophy. After qualifying through state and regional matches, FC Transylvania managed to claim the trophy in a four-day, four-win streak.
FCT’s 15-U Boys Premier squad managed to defeat their rivals from Connecticut 3-2 on Friday, Illinois 4-2 on Saturday, South Carolina 2-1 on Sunday, and Maryland 3-2 on the final day, Tuesday, July 23. Scoring 12 goals over the competition while only giving up 7, the team clinched the cup’s top seat, eking out Maryland’s Pachuca Dragons.
