Scarsdale M&A Lawyer Named Top Dealmaker

Scarsdale resident David Rosewater, one of the nation’s leading M&A attorneys, was recognized this week as “Dealmaker of the Year 2014” by The American Lawyer. The publication spotlights a handful of attorneys who worked on the most noteworthy and complex deals of the previous year. Rosewater is a partner and co-head of New York City firm Schulte Roth & Zabel’s shareholder activism practice. He has been widely recognized as the top legal counsel for both well-known and other activist investors, and has worked with clients like JANA Partners, Elliott Management, Sandell Asset Management, Casablanca Capital, Trian Partners, Clinton Group and Orange Capital. Of the 75 proxy contests between January and July 2013, Rosewater and his colleague, Marc Weingarten, worked on 15 of them, representing a significant market share. In addition, this year marks 10 years since Rosewater—who received his B.A., with distinction and high honors, from the University of Michigan and his J.D., cum laude, from New York University School of Law—became a partner at Schulte Roth & Zabel.

Harrison Educator Elected New NYSUT President

Karen Magee, the longtime head of the Harrison teachers union, has been elected president of the New York State United Teachers, a statewide union with 600,000 members. Magee is the union’s first woman president. She unseated Richard Iannuzzi, a three-term President and former Long Island teacher, who led NYSUT since 2005. Magee will serve a three-year term. She called for unity in the 600,000-member association, made up of teachers and school workers statewide, following the heavily contested election. “Our team stands for change and our work begins now,” Magee said in a statement. “That includes taking on the tough fights and communicating clearly with decision makers at every level. We will be the voice they cannot ignore. We will defend public education and public service. Period.”
