This Wedding Venue Totally Has That Brooklyn-Meets-The-Hudson-Valley Feel

Why We Love It:

Among the Hudson Valley’s many, many barns and stately manors, Basilica Hudson has a unique, gritty-romantic vibe. Built in 1880 as a foundry, this stripped-down industrial space has a Brooklyn-meets-the-Hudson-Valley feel in the artsy town of Hudson. With more than 7,000 square feet of space to play with, it’s perfect for a couple that wants ultimate flexibility (there are no required vendors), and a unique feel. Another bonus: The entire building runs off a solar panel array so your wedding won’t increase your carbon footprint.

What it Costs: $36,000

Cost is calculated assuming a peak season Saturday night with a 125-person guest list. It includes site fees, in-house rental package, heating/cooling system, bridal loft, and an estimated catering cost of $150/pp. It does not include entertainment, décor, photography, transportation, or gratuity and sales tax. See site-fee range in “When to Book.”

The Space:

The ceremony is typically held in the smaller North Hall, while the guests celebrate the reception in the sprawling 6,000 sq. ft. Main Hall. There’s also a West Wing that can be used for catering or as a bar area. A bridal loft is available for an extra fee. The venue also features 10,000 sq. ft. of outdoor space. Basilica Hudson can accommodate up to 350 guests for a seated reception (more than 1,000 for cocktail).

Before You Book:

Handling every detail can be daunting, and hiring a coordinator to help with the process is highly recommended (Basilica Hudson does not have in-house coordinators). Expect to pay à la carte for everything from additional cooling and heating (required in winter months) to extension cords. Rentals span the whole weekend – from noon on Friday to noon on Sunday – and can include multiple events.

Getting Here:

Hudson’s Amtrak station is the only direct transit option. There is ample on-site parking. Guests can also opt to stay in Hudson, which has several boutique hotels and B&Bs plus a vibrant dining scene and main shopping street. The venue also provides a list of trusted Airbnb options nearby.

When to Book:

For peak months, it’s best to book a year in advance (as of December 2016 there was only one peak weekend available in 2017). Site fees top out at $13,500 during peak season (May, June, September, and October) and drop to $10,000 during the shoulder-season months (April, July, August, November, and December) and $6,500 during the off-season (January, February, and March).
