Get ready for a new way to sweat. Tasia Sabatino’s Thornwood studio, Rebel Yoga, offers an innovative angle on the classic hot-and-heavy poses. “During my yoga training, the name Rebel just came to me, as I wanted to attract those who have been turned off from traditional yoga in the past, so they can see that it doesn’t have to be serious,” says Sabatino. “It doesn’t have to push intense spirituality and it doesn’t have to involve advanced postures — it is what you want it to be.”
Rebel Yoga, which opened December 8 on 653 Commerce Street in Thornwood, is already making good on this mission. The studio’s highly accessible 60-minute class, Rebel Flow, is based on Sabatino’s extensive Vinyasa training coupled with her broad athletic background.

“It’s an hour of all the traditional yoga poses we know and love with a bit more fun and booty burn,” says Sabatino of the class. “In order to maintain a strong foundation, we incorporate a segment specifically for booty and core. Throughout [the class] we play everything from classic rock to hip-hop with lights down low, and we offer both hot and non-hot classes.”
And there is no question Sabatino knows what works for the people of Westchester. The fitness fanatic taught a range of classes throughout the county and New York City before pioneering her own Best of Westchester-winning skincare line, Get Dirty. Rebel Yoga will offer Sabatino’s Get Dirty products as well as custom apparel, gear, and handmade jewelry. The studio will also hold a weekly Rebel and Restore class led by an energy healer, which incorporates restorative postures, song bowls, and Reiki energy work as a compliment to the Rebel Flow classes.
“I want people to feel good again and relearn how to move their bodies more efficiently,” says Sabatino. “I wanted to create a space of my own, not just a home-base for me but a space created for people to come in and let go of their everyday stressors, a tranquil place they could escape to and leave feeling strengthened, lengthened, and with clarity and peace of mind.”

The studio also offers private and group instruction by request, and can be booked for events including bachelorette parties and office outings. Prices begin at $28 for a single session, and the studio offers a wealth of different packages and options.
However for Sabatino, Rebel Yoga is much more than a place to simply sweat it out with friends – it is a home for those seeking inner-peace. “Yoga itself is much more than just a physical practice, it is a practice for our mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies as well,” says Sabatino. “Students not only leave class with a sense of accomplishment from the workout, but they also leave class with peace of mind and a heightened perspective for the way they live their lives.”
