A dinner party needs two things: delicious food and plenty of good conversation. The first half of that equation can be daunting and that’s where personal chefs like Rye resident Betsy Berry come in.
As the founder of Hamptons Get It Done (www.hamptonsgetitdonebybetsyberry.com), a concierge-chef service that previously operated in the Hamptons before moving to Westchester in early 2019, Berry will plan, shop, and cook an entire meal in your home for a weeknight family dinner, a small party, or anything in between.
All jobs start with a consultation to determine a client’s specific needs, with a focus on Berry’s laid-back style that emphasizes simple, intimate meals.
Think garlic-stuffed steaks on the grill, spaghetti with ripe summer tomatoes and cockles, or herbes de Provence-rubbed roast chicken — and plenty of French wine. “I’m a mom who likes to cook and who cooks really well,” says Berry. But being a mom is hardly her only culinary influence.
For more than 30 years, Berry jetted around the world to model for campaigns and catalogs. Yet as she neared her 50th birthday, she began to burn out on the non-stop lifestyle.
“I started thinking what else can I do? I thought about everything I had done, the places I had traveled. I’d lived in Paris, London, and Rome. I’d spent a lot of time in South Africa, and I always loved to cook,” recalls Berry. “Everywhere I went, the first place I would go was to off-the-beaten-track restaurants. So, I thought, I do know something. I can cook.”
