Westchester County is chock-full of beautiful homes. So what sets apart one of the latest listings in Bedford? The $5.25 million home at 1 Woodland Road was formerly The Huntswood Club, the site of a popular swim club in the 1960s and ’70s. Ten years ago, it was purchased by builder Alan Watts, who deliberated until last year about the renovation of the property.
Watts helped turn the former club into a single-family home. He says the positioning of the property is what makes it unique. While renovating, Watts felt it was important to design a house that fit the aesthetic. Set on a private lake with a private beach, the home has an “unbelievable setup, and we didn’t want to lose that,” explains Watts, who also owns Hudson Valley Estates in Mount Kisco. Careful engineering and determination allowed him and his team to modernize the home while still maintaining its roots as a swim club through the use of all-natural wood
and stonework.

“You can’t manufacture this kind of property. It is one of a kind,” Watts says.
The 9,000 sq. ft. home offers six beds and eight baths; amenities include an outdoor shower, infinity-edge pool, home theater, gym, stone wine cellar, and custom-built gourmet kitchen. Additionally, the entire home is wired as a smart house — the pool, lighting, and audio can be controlled from a smartphone. The home, according to Watts, was engineered for someone who wants an “extreme home. This house has everything that anybody
would want.”
