What’s to like?
Bought nearly five years ago, the homeowner was venturing for a more spiritual space to get away from the busy city life. The Hamptons, her former escape, had become inconvenient due to the heavy weekend traffic. While traveling home from a Berkshires upstate ski trip, the idea of settling in Dobbs Ferry struck her. There wasn’t much traffic driving back and as she describes it, “the trees, the roads, and vibe of Dobbs Ferry spoke to me as if it was a calling.” She wanted a new escape. After deciding to do some house hunting, she and her family explored about 50 homes, then discovered this unique architectural beauty in Dobbs Ferry. The long driveway was just the beginning of the unfolding of a stunning modernist home. “Something hit me,” she recalls. “Something about the floor-space and the way it connected to the exterior.” As a writer, director, dancer, and yoga enthusiast, she needed an inspiring get-away space removed from the hectic atmosphere of New York City.
As soon as you enter the home, you’re immediately greeted by three suspended closets. “Most people might not appreciate it, but I particularly liked it,” the homeowner says. “The one-of-a-kind design contains an internal energy and flow reminiscent of eastern philosophy; there’s nothing is accidental about it.” She collaborated with her award-winning architect and interior designer, David Bucovy, to transform the 1974 property into what she calls “a soulful space.” The family was astounded with the home’s transformation when it emerged from its clearly needed makeover. The stunning results: a Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired gem nestled in the woods. “Each corner invites a different mood,” the homeowner notes. The unexpectedly geometric home spoke to her from every angle, including its effortless flow from room to room. This minimalist home, complete with its long flowing empty spaces, the feel of its gardens, lush landscapes, pond and fountain views, rolling fields, outdoor pool, and even lack of a basement, makes you feel you’ve landed in, as her kids call it, “Alice in Wonderland.” Its countless open spaces and walls of windows merge the interior with the outdoors, making you one with nature. So uniquely special, this home’s unique design and innovative style will feed your imagination, invite you to fall in love with it, and of course, buy it.
