Abeetz, founded and owned by Dave D’Amico, made its first stop at Harbor Island Park in Mamaroneck at the beginning of the summer. The White Plains-based pizza truck has grown in popularity over the past two months, and it’s not hard to see why: there is an oven imported all the way from Italy on board, where D’Amico’s grandparents are from, and a warm pie is always served with a big grin.
D‘Amico offers pizzas with interesting names like White Beater (goat cheese, ricotta, mozzarella and spicy honey) and Bae (bacon, egg and mozzarella cheese with a homemade everything-spice on the crust).
The Sawzeech: crumbled sweet sausage, spicy pickled chilies, mozzarella and homemade sauce.
There are also classics, like the popular Mutzie (fresh mozzarella, homemade sauce, and basil). Other crowd pleasers include the avocado toast (no explanation necessary), and the Sangwich (pastrami, pickles, mozzarella, and homemade creamy mustard). There is even a cannoli pizza called the Pinnoli (run for this one, don’t walk, as the dessert offerings are subject to change).
D’Amico has been in the restaurant business for a long time, and made pizza at home for family, gaining inspiration from his grandmother making fresh dough growing up.
Why name the truck Abeetz? “My grandparents couldn’t speak English well,” D’Amico said. “That’s how they pronounced ‘pizza.’” Same of the aforementioned names is how they would have pronounced them.

Abeetz is looking to move to Yonkers as the weather cools down, but its location can be tracked online at www.abeetzny.com and is available for private events. Even Eric Trump is a fan.
