The votes are in! 276 impartial pedestrians outside Westchester County’s Department of Health in White Plains sampled tap water from ten different local suppliers, including ones from Bedford, Briarcliff Manor, Cortlandt, Elmsford, Greenburgh, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, Peekskill, White Plains, and Yonkers.
If that last one jumps out at you, it’s because Yonkers was the reigning champ, having won last year and gone on to the regional competition. This year, they’ve done it again. Winning for the second year in a row, Yonkers will now compete in the regional contest this summer and, should the city win, the state championship at the Great New York State Fair in Syracuse.

“We all win, because Westchester’s drinking water tastes great and is good for you,” said County Executive George Latimer, who ceremonially cast the first ballot. “It’s reassuring to know we have professionals working behind the scenes to maintain and assure the high quality of our drinking water.”
It’s thanks to that cool, crisp, refreshing tap water that Westchester can boast some of the world’s best bagels and pizza crusts — and while we know we’re the best, it’s nice to get some confirmation every now and again.
