These Westchester High Schools Made Niche's Top Rankings


Just in time for the 2019 school year, ratings website Niche has released its lists of the best schools in New York State, as well as the best high schools both public and private. For yet another year in a row, Westchester County can lay claim to quite a few of the top spots.


Top Private High Schools

  #9 – Hackley School, Tarrytown
#10 – Rye Country Day School, Rye
#21 – French-American School of New York, Mamaroneck
#24 – The Masters School, Dobbs Ferry


Top Public Schools

  #7 – Scarsdale Senior High School, Scarsdale Union Free School District
#12 – Horace Greeley High School, Chappaqua Central School District
#15 – Mamaroneck High School, Mamaroneck Union Free School District
#16 – Rye High School, Rye City School Ditrict


All of the above schools received an A+ overall rating from Niche, weighing statistics and even reviews from current and former students. A total of 83,542 public schools, 3,903 private institutions, and 10,758 school districts were weighed throughout the nation to crunch these numbers. The Hackley School in Tarrytown, which placed 9th for private high schools in New York State, also placed 49th in the country — putting it in the upper 0.05% of all schools! Scarsdale Senior High, which ranked 7th in state for public high schools, also clocked in at 60th nation-wide.

With so many Westchester schools in the Top 10 and Top 25 of all state facilities, a look at New York’s Top 10 school districts won’t be particularly surprising:

#17 – Hastings-on-Hudson Union Free School District, Hastings-on-Hudson
#18 – Mamaroneck Union Free School District, Mamaroneck
#21 – Byram Hills Central School District, Armonk
#25 – Katonah-Lewisboro Union Free School District, South Salem


Yes, Westchester accounts for a full 44% of the top school districts in all of New York. (That’s roughly the top 3.6 percentile for those keeping track at home.)

The top slot in the country went to Jericho Union Free School District in Brookville, NY for the first year ever. Full national rankings are online for anyone interested in scoping out the competition.
