Despite their name, there is nothing accidental about the perfect blend of crunchiness and chewiness found all in one bite of a Woops! macaron. Not to be confused with macaroons, the sweet pyramids of shredded coconut, macarons are almond-meringue-based wafers filled with either jam or ganache. They’re fancier and lighter than a cupcake, pie, or brownie, and packed with flavor. And, because Woops! offers more than 20 different macaron flavors, can customize them, and has locations around White Plains’ busiest shopping centers, these petite meringue sandwiches are your gift hack of the season.
You can purchase a box of six ($15) or 12 ($29) for a pretty and unique Secret Santa gift or present for the host, customize them with a logo or photo as party favors, or just treat yourself to a pick-me-up on your second or third hour of holiday shopping.
The delicate French pastry is baked fresh daily at Food Art in the Bronx and comes in the classic flavors like dark chocolate, vanilla, coconut and pistachio; kid-friendly flavors like bubblegum and cotton candy, and cookies n’ cream; and seasonal offerings like Champagne. Woops! also sells amazing waffle products imported from Holland, “pillow” cookies, and alfajor or Argentinian shortbread cookies with a caramel filling.
Four years ago, the company debuted as a pop-up shop at the Bryant Park Holiday Shops in Manhattan and has since grown to a franchise business with more than 30 locations in the country. Yorktown resident Michael Kagan, 26, and his father brought it to the heart of Westchester’s retail scene last November with a kiosk in The Westchester. They opened a new kiosk at the White Plains City Center, across from ShopRite this month, and also run another location in the Galleria Mall food court. While shopping in White Plains this holiday season, make sure it is no accident that you stumble across a Woops.
