The Cookie Monster has a place in Westchester, but the name is not in reference to the iconic Muppet from Sesame Street. It’s the name of the most popular order at Mamaroneck’s new cookie-and-cereal bar, Milk N Cookies (270 Mamaroneck Ave; 914.630.7276).
A giant, bright-blue sugar cookie stuffed with a chocolate chip cookie, The Cookie Monster is just one of the many creative flavors at the new hotspot. The official Westchester vendor of Long Island-based Duchess Cookies, Milk N Cookies offers 4.5-5 oz cookies in flavors like Unicorn (sprinkled with edible glitter and stuffed with strawberry cheesecake), Oreo cheesecake, and chocolate-peanut-butter-chip.
Simon Dursunian and George Spirou opened the trendy dessert spot on January 12, and the shop’s team sold about 12,000 cookies in the first five days. Dursunian, a White Plains resident, says, “I knew Mamaroneck was missing something. I was tired of seeing kids walking around with Starbucks cups and sitting in restaurants, not knowing where to go and hang out.” The 1,200 sq. ft. space features modern, black-and-white décor and a full range of childhood-favorite cereals to top milkshakes and soft-serve. Open daily and until 2 a.m. on weekends, Milk N Cookies is the spot for late-night cravings (they deliver!).
Dursunian and Spirou plan to expand into the space next door, which will add 1,200 square feet for a party room and space for video and board games. A candy store may also be in the works. Dursunian says, “We can’t wait to be able to provide a space for families to come hang out; have some cookies, ice cream, or cereal; and even play a game of Monopoly after dinner at one of the local restaurants.”
The two plan to open a second location in Spirou’s native New Jersey and want to create a food truck in Westchester, which should be in motion by spring, for private events like parties, weddings, and sports events
