These Are 5 of the Best Things to Do in Westchester This Week

Whether you’re into jazz, classical, blues, rock, or country, Westchester music festivals will have you toe-tapping in time this week. If you’re more into visuals, well, you’re still in luck: painting, mixed media, and some … sculpted, chiseled forms are also on the menu.

May 30 — Paint your Own Private Beach

Stop by SAVOR in The Westchester, where PizZaZzles is getting into the summer mood with a craft project you won’t want to miss. $20 buys you “lively” paint instruction so you can create your very own wooden sign beach scene, along with an accompanying DJ and karaoke from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

May 31 — The Full Monterey, New South Wales

Are you, like us, still devastated at the lack of Magic Mike 3 in the world? Well, Australia has heard our cries and sent their most magical sons, Thunder from Down Under to bring “The perfect Girls’ Night Outback” to Peekskill’s Paramount Theater. Chiseled hunks, sexy accents, and copious amounts of body oil … it’s kind of like Cirque but with skimpier costumes. Tickets range $30-$45.

June 1-3 — If You Build It, He Will Come

LEGOLAND Discovery Center Westchester is holding a special month-long birthday celebration for the Police Officer minifigure. (He just turned 40! Will he ever retire!?) To celebrate, the Discovery Center is going full party-mode Minifigure crazy, including 17 exclusive minifigs, birthday-themed builds in the Model Builder academy, series 18 minifig trading, and a Miniland scavenger hunt! Costumed characters will join the fun every weekend this month, starting with the birthday boy himself June 1-3. (Later guests will include Ninjago City’s own Lloyd and Kai, and Wyldstyle from The LEGO Movie.)

June 2 — Rollin’ on the River

To kick off outdoor entertainment season, Westchester welcomes back the fourth annual RiverArts Music Tour. From noon until midnight, more than 280 musicians will perform 120 times at 36 venues spread throughout the towns of Dobbs Ferry, Hastings-on-Hudson, Irvington, and Tarrytown. All performances are free, and this year the Tour has partnered with Metro-North to make this a getaway event for music lovers from all over the Hudson Valley. Venues include Tarrytown’s Jazz Forum, Irvington’s Presbyterian Church, Mercy College Recording Studio, and favorite restaurants like Harper’s, Tomatillos, and The Mill.

June 3 — Artist vs. Producer

For fine art lovers, Peekskill Arts Alliance’s Open Studios returns for its 21^st anniversary. Tour the actual studios of working artists, see pieces in progress, and take in gallery showings throughout the city. For fans of the more, let’s say course arts, a day trip to the Ridgefield Playhouse is definitely in order for a 50^th anniversary showing of a fully restored 1968 print of Mel Brooks’ The Producers. Before Broderick and Lane there was Mostel and Wilder, and they were the best at being the worst. Tickets are only $12.50.
