These 6 Westchester Kids Are LEGOLAND’s Newest Creative Crew

Master Builders in the making, these young residents might have the coolest construction job in the county.

After a two-month search, LEGOLAND Discovery Center in Yonkers has completed their quest to find the best, brightest, and most imaginative Master Builders Westchester County has to offer. Named to the 2018 Creative Crew, these six children will work with Master Model Builder Anthony Maddaloni and six others from the Metro Area to test new attractions, build the Discover Center’s massive dioramas and scale models, and learn advanced building techniques in special private build academy sessions.

The six crewmembers, all age 10 or younger, submitted their entries that were evaluated based on the “creativity and enthusiasm exhibited in the child’s response, and imagination conveyed in the child’s LEGO model.”

“Selecting this year’s Creative Crew was a tough job,” said Maddaloni. “We had so many amazing creations that made choosing just twelve very difficult. I’m thrilled to begin mentoring our new crew as they explore their imagination and am excited to see what they will accomplish in the year ahead.”

Westchester’s crewmembers include five-year-old Wynn Petchor of Mamaroneck, seven-year-old Alexander Gutierrez of Yonkers, eight-year-olds Benjamin Cady of Croton-on-Hudson and Chelsea Marie Phaire of Mount Vernon, and ten-year-olds Bryan Heindl and Victoria Calabro, residents of Cortlandt Manor and Buchanan respectively.

“I’ve been building with LEGO bricks my whole life and love that I can use my mind to be creative with them,” said Petchor. “My dad gave me all of his LEGOs from when he was a kid, so I’ve got some really old ones. I love using my imagination to plan out and build all kinds of new LEGO things.”

Crewmembers will be able to meet each other and Master Model Builder Maddaloni at a special event next month. In addition to this and other special events, every child will also be awarded with a Family 4-Pack of annual passes, meaning they and their families can come enjoy unlimited LEGOLAND fun for the whole year.
