The U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship Is Coming to Westchester Country Club

The USGA has announced that Westchester Country Club in Rye will host the 121st U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship in 2021. The West Course, a PGA Tour stop for forty years, will test the field, which often includes aspiring LPGA competitors as well as top amateur players from around the world.

“We are proud and excited to again host the world’s best female amateur competitors here at Westchester and to work with the USGA, which always puts on a world-class championship,” says Thomas Pisano, president of WCC. “Our membership believes strongly in supporting the amateur game and we look forward to showcasing our course and facility.”

“The USGA is thrilled to bring the U.S. Women’s Amateur to Westchester Country Club for the second time,” said Stuart Francis, USGA Championship Committee chairman. “One of the USGA’s three oldest championships, the Women’s Amateur consistently identifies the world’s top female players, and we are confident Westchester will provide the ultimate test for the championship’s 121st playing.”

Westchester previously hosted the 1923 U.S. Women’s Amateur, won by Edith Cummings and a large photo of this event hangs in the Travis Room near the exit to the Harwood Room in the clubhouse. The tournament was first conducted in 1895 as one of the USGA’s first three championships. Notable winners include Juli Inkster, Glenna Collett Vare, Patty Berg, Babe Didrikson Zaharias, JoAnne Gunderson Carner, Carol Semple Thompson, Beth Daniel, Danielle Kang and Lydia Ko.

Three-time U.S. Amateur champion Walter J. Travis laid out two 18-hole courses at Westchester Country Club that opened in 1922. Westchester’s West Course has hosted many professional golf events, including a PGA Tour event from 1967 through 2007, as well as the 2011 Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship (won by Fred Couples), and the 2015 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship (won by Inbee Park).
