Tricia and George first met at the apartment complex in Bear, Delaware, where they both lived back in the summer of 2007. Without meaning to, Tricia found herself sizing George up. “He’s awfully cute,” she thought. At that very moment, George was doing the same thing. “ Wouldn’t it be nice…,” he wondered dreamily, but naturally kept it to himself. They liked each other right off the bat, but neither was sure about the other’s feelings. After about a year of friendship, though, George finally took a deep breath and asked Tricia out on a date.

George, a police officer in New Canaan, Connecticut, and the bride, a business analyst and project manager for Citigroup chose Saint Patrick’s Church in Bedford for their wedding site. They found the reception site through westchester-weddings.com—smart couple! The ‘castles’ category caught Tricia’s eye—Whitby Castle in Rye, in particular. The two felt their romance was so magical, it deserved a fairy-tale wedding to match. About 100 guests filled the little stone chapel, and witnessed the couple exchanging their vows.

The wedding day was a glorious one, unseasonably warm and clear. The bride wore a Maggie Sottero ball-gown-style strapless dress with a lace-up back and lovely crystal beading accents; Manolo Blahnik shoes and a Versace clutch completed the look. Flowers were pastel shades of pink and cream, with a touch of silver for pizzazz.
Cocktails were served throughout the night and complemented a lovely menu with an Italian influence (both Tricia and George have some Italian in their backgrounds). An antipasto display, a pasta station with an assortment of sauces, and a collection of hors d’oeuvres started the meal. The main course was a choice of grilled mahi mahi in a coconut-coriander-kaffir-lime sauce or stuffed chicken with Boursin cheese in a carmelized vidalia onion and roasted red pepper sauce.
Lulu Cake Boutique in Scarsdale provided the wedding cake: a delectable Nutella buttercream-filled confection with praline crunch and dark chocolate glaze over vanilla cake. The couple also had a Viennese dessert display of fruits, pies, cakes, petit fours, chocolates, and Tricia’s favorite, strawberries dipped in chocolate with drawn-on tuxedos. “Whitby Castle did a fabulous job with the dinner,” she says.
During the reception, the couple recognized George’s grandparents’ 69th wedding anniversary as well as his grandfather’s recent 94th birthday. The bride’s aunt Eleanor was also recognized for her 90th birthday. “It really gave the wedding a personal touch for the family and made it special for them,” Tricia says.
While the two planned to honeymoon in Italy, they had to postpone plans and will be traveling there for their first wedding anniversary instead. While there, they hope to drive from Milan to Bavaria, to visit the Neuschwanstein Castle.
After all, doesn’t a fairy-tale couple deserve a fairy-tale vacation?
