The Secret Danny DeVito Shrine Resurfaces At Yonkers' Alamo Drafthouse

Update (1/18): Those who were saddened by the loss of the viral Danny DeVito shrine, after being cemented up by officials at SUNY Purchase, can celebrate its recent resurrection. Originally found in an unfinished room behind a paper towel dispenser in one of the college’s bathrooms, the shrine praising the Always Sunny in Philedelphia star has resurfaced in the lobby of Yonkers’ Alamo Drafthouse, where a special screening of 1987’s Throw Momma From the Train was being hosted.

As with the original shrine, a sign at the shrine states “Leave An Offering for Our Lord and Savior Danny DeVito, Patron Saint of Trash Men.” According to Metaflix, tributes such as eggs, discarded MoviePass cards, and monster condoms are piling up around a picture of the smiling DeVito. The shrine is set to be displayed through Sunday.

Update (11/16): The shrine has unfortunately been shut down by the school, for safety reasons, according to a tweet.

DeVito however tweeted that he was “honored” by the garbage shrine, and encouraged environmental awareness and responsibility:

A bathroom paper towel dispenser at Purchase College is hiding a secret that has taken the internet by storm, and it involves the Always Sunny in Philadelphia actor Danny DeVito.

A video from a student at Purchase posted on Twitter shows a hole in the bathroom wall where the paper towel dispenser was ripped out, leading into an unfinished room spray painted with graffiti. A smiling Danny DeVito cutout sits in the corner, surrounded by shrine-like offerings like notes, packs of cigarettes, and the actor’s headshot.

In a tweet from last month, a student invited DeVito to visit the school for the “secret room that worships” him. Handwritten instructions tell visitors to “Leave An Offering for Our Lord and Savior Danny DeVito, Patron Saint of Trash Men.”

Since going viral on Tuesday, news of it spread through the Purchase student body. The school even acknowledged its existence in a tweet, saying “We’d like to say we’re surprised, but our students are well known for their creativity and sense of humor.”
