Those seeking to get pampered and get away from it all can accomplish both with equal success at this AAA Four Diamond Adirondack resort situated on a private island in the middle of Lake George. The Sagamore’s rustic but luxe accommodations are sublimely complemented by its award-winning dining, full-service salon and spa, 18-hole Donald Ross golf course, and range of other outdoor/indoor recreational pursuits.

Listed as an official landmark on the National Register of Historic Places, the original Victorian-style hotel component of the resort was built in 1883 and features 137 rooms and 54 suites, all with garden or lake views, some offering private balconies.

In addition to the Historic Hotel, the Sagamore offers additional accommodation choices in seven lodges encircling the island, a dozen bi-level luxury suites in a 19th-century carriage house, extended-stay condominiums, and, for a budget-blowing, bucket-list experience, Wapanak Castle, featuring six bedrooms, four bathrooms, and five fireplaces, accommodating up to a dozen guests. Despite the towering size and scale of the resort, the Sagamore’s attentive and responsive staff diligently manages your stay and gives lots of attention to detail.

Scenic Spots

Just east of Lake George, Shelving Rock Falls (reachable by car or boat to Log Bay) is an easy hiking trail for families, first-timers, and anyone seeking scenic beauty without a strenuous workout.
Drive to the 2,030-foot summit of nearby Prospect Mountain, stopping at three scenic overlooks—the Narrows, Lake George Panorama, and the Eagle’s Eye—along the way. At the summit, a shuttle takes you to the mountain’s peak, featuring a 100-mile view of Lake George and the surrounding Adirondack region.
Take the resort’s boat tour of the lake for some of the best foliage photo ops to be had anywhere in the region.

Must Do

Venture back onto the mainland to visit the Fort William Henry Museum, a restored British military outpost near the southern tip of Lake George made famous in The Last of the Mohicans. On your way back to the resort spend some time checking out the shops, bars, and restaurants in Bolton Landing.
