On Mother’s Day, restaurants can attract big crowds and long lines; it’s not always the most relaxing way to celebrate mom. This year, take your cue from Mark Kramer, executive chef and creative director at Susan Lawrence Gourmet Foods who prefers the more intimate and leisurely nature of celebrating mom at home.
“To make the day easy and all about Mom, the food has to be casual, fresh and fun,” he explains. His Mother’s Day menu is carefully devised to do just that, highlighting spring seasonal produce like asparagus as well as lighter fare such as cedar plank salmon with rosemary and lavender and Maryland crab and corn cakes.

If you’re lounging all day, opt for an assortment of savory hors d’oeuvres like garlic shrimp and the spinach and wild mushroom Asiago dip. With an eye toward sourcing locally from farms and purveyors in the Hudson Valley, this Mother’s Day menu has something for every mama, whether she’s a meat lover, vegetarian, or eats gluten-free.
How else can you make mom feel special this year? Instead of a traditional floral bouquet, order her the Mother’s Day Flower Pot Cake, a chocolate cake with chocolate fudge filling, terra cotta vanilla buttercream, and decorated with marzipan bees and buttercream flowers.
And don’t forget the card!
Orders for Mother’s Day must be placed by 1 pm on Friday, May 12th – menu available in the store and on-line.
