The Latest News Around Westchester's Foodie Scene This Month

The newest table additions that matter most around the county.

Louie Lanza’s Hudson Hospitality Group, with Buns-N-Bourbon, Taco Dive Bar, Fin & Brew, and The Hudson Room in its portfolio, has opened its fifth Peekskill restaurant: The Eagle Saloon (21 S Division St, Peekskill; 914.788.4663). The tavern has a 42-foot bar, live-music stage, and a menu with lots of shareable items, Asian-style bowls, smoked brisket, and sushi-grade Scottish salmon.

The short-lived Spark Valley Steakhouse has relaunched as Hudson Valley Steakhouse (3360 Crompond Rd, Yorktown Heights; 914.930.8688). Executive chef and co-owner Tomassino (Timmy) Prengjoni hand-selects USDA Prime cuts, including a 38 oz. porterhouse and a 31-day dry-aged tomahawk steak for two. Prengjoni, along with the two other owners, have collective experience at iconic Manhattan restaurants such as Acappella, Sparks Steakhouse, the Rainbow Room, and Colicchio & Sons.

Petra Greek Food has closed and in its place is Café Alaia (66 Garth Rd, Scarsdale; 914.725.3000), a cozy eatery serving Italian classics, such as grilled octopus, oven-baked zucchini parmigiana, pappardelle in a braised lamb ragù, whole Mediterranean sea bass, and house-made potato gnocchi in a basil pesto. Pastas are $16 to $21, and other mains range from $21 to $36.

Expect big-city dining and bigtime steaks at Hudson Valley Steakhouse.

SoBol’s acai bowls are a healthier alternative to the majority of cereal bowls

Acai bowls, made with the nutrient-dense acai berry that originates from the rainforests of Central and South America, are among the central offerings at two new fast-casual chains in Westchester. SoBol in White Plains (850-B N Broadway; 914.761.0111) is the 16th location of this primarily Long Island-based chain. An acai purée combined with house-made granola and topped with banana, strawberry, blueberry, coconut, and a drizzle of honey is the classic order. Pitaya (i.e., dragonfruit) bowls with assorted tropical fruits, plus fruit smoothies, are also on the menu. Also new to the county is Playa Bowls (465 Bedford Rd, Pleasantville; 914.495.3438), a 27-location (and rapidly growing) East Coast chain serving acai bowls, as well as pitaya, banana, green, coconut, and chia pudding bowls.
