Clay Health Club has doubled down — no, make that tripled down — on their golf facility in Port Chester. The revolutionary fitness club and spa recently tripled the space devoted to game improvement technology and services in what is now known as The Golf Club at Clay. A new teaching studio under the direction of Michael Manavian opened this month while the former studio has been converted to a home for a TruGolf E6 simulator where members can virtually play 15 world-famous courses.
“We’re expanding the facility so we have more game-improvement service as well as more of a social aspect,” said Clay owner Seth Hirschel. The new instruction studio also has lounge areas where members can hang out after their workout. The simulator studio is located next to the Clay Café with its menu of healthy fare and steps away from the rooftop sun deck.
“This is a club in the truest sense of the word… a club within the club at Clay,” Manavian said. “Members can watch TV, go through the instruction books that are here, and even play in local events with Brandon Gaydorus.” Gaydorus, one of two new additions to the golf staff at Clay, is a teaching professional and a TPI fitness professional as well. David Taraschi is a Stack & Tile authorized instructor at the club during the winter season.
The big draw of the club, however, is the technology backing up Manavian’s coaching programs and club fittings. Leading the state-of-the-art list is the Gears system, one of only 32 in the world. Eight high-speed cameras feed massive amounts of swing data generated by 30 motion sensors on the golfer’s body and club. The instant biomechanical feedback from the system produces an on-screen avatar that shows movements in real time and allows detailed measurements of every angle in the swing down to the hundredths of a degree. In addition, Manavian uses 2 Skytrak and an ES14 launch monitors and a SynLawn putting green to help members improve their games.
Membership plans are available ranging from $500 to $2,900 monthly. The packages include supervised practice blocks, unsupervised practice times, and Gears-supported instruction and lessons. Members also participate in Metabolic Conditioning and Golf Workouts of the Day, one-on-one performance training, and various fitness assessments, lifestyle consultations, and nutrition coaching to provide a fully-rounded golf improvement experience under the direction of Ali Gilbert.
